In 1996, at St-Exupéry, accompanied by two specialists, France Dionne pursued her dream as a dancer to create a professional dance-study program to train high school students. However, due to her new role as a mother and multiple other projects, the program had to be put on hold. The project resumed in 2012 with a request from Édouard Montpetit High School, and the dream was finally realized. The program initially included Jazz, contemporary, classical ballet, and hip-hop classes. As the program expanded and aimed to provide students with more versatility, various styles such as theatrical dance, tap dance, krump, and Latin dance were added. The DMA dance-study program now counts Édouard-Montpetit High School, Antoine de St-Exupéry, Collège de Montréal, and Reine Marie among its partners.
The dance-study program is proud to have weathered the pandemic without losing any dancers! We implemented Zoom classes, filmed performances, and socially distanced masked classes to ensure that our students could continue dancing as much as possible during these challenging two years. We also thank our students and their families for their loyalty and support during these difficult times for everyone.
Prior to these "adapted" years in the global health context, we had begun organizing trips to dance in New York and Toronto. The first edition of the New York trip was a great success!
For several years, the program's dancers have had the opportunity to attend professional performances at Place des Arts (Danse Danse). From various styles, selected shows provide students with the chance to deepen their learning and their passion for dance.
